Does the U.S. spend more on pet food and care than on homeless programs?

CS asked:

I’d actually like some facts/statistics, regardless of political view. The pet food trade association seems to say dog and cat food spending is just above $15B/yr. Not sure how to determine a real number for homelessness spending.
